Link Building in Kansas City, MO

Links are roughly half of what moves a page up, which is why the market for them is full of people selling things that are not links. The test is simple: can you open it, and does it point at you.

Why They Matter

Why links still carry half the weight

A link from another site is the closest thing search engines have to a vote they did not have to take your word for. Content tells Google what a page is about. Links are a large part of what tells it whether the page deserves to be believed.

Which is why a well written page on a site nobody links to sits on page four, and a worse page on a well linked site sits on page one. That is frustrating and it is also how it works.

Two Jobs

Two kinds of link doing two different jobs

Validation links get a new page crawled, indexed and treated as real rather than as another batch of generated filler. Every new page needs one. They are not there to move rankings and we do not claim they are.

Authority links are the ones that move position. They are slower, there are fewer of them, and they come from publications with their own readership. Mixing the two up is how agencies report a hundred links and no movement.

Quality

Referring domains beat raw link count

Fifty links from one site is close to one link. Ten links from ten separate sites is ten. The number that matters is how many distinct domains point at you, which is why a report full of link counts and no domain count is hiding something.

Relevance helps but is not a requirement. A strong link from a site in a different field still counts if the content around it is real.

What We Will Not Do

The things we will not sell you

No bought link packages. No networks sold as authority. No comment or directory spam. These work until they do not, and the cleanup costs more than the gain ever was.

We also will not report a link we cannot open. Every placement comes with its live address so you can check the link is there, points at you, and is not marked so search engines ignore it.

Competitors

Starting from what the top three already have

The fastest way to find realistic targets is to look at who links to the businesses above you in Kansas City and does not link to you. That list is finite, specific and free to produce.

It also sets expectations honestly. If the top three each have a hundred referring domains and you have nine, that gap is the project, and no amount of on-page work closes it.

The Rest Of It

Links alone will not do it

A link pointed at a page that does not answer the question moves nothing. The page has to deserve the position before the link can deliver it, which is why this runs alongside the Kansas City SEO services work rather than instead of it.

And new pages need to exist before they can be linked, which is where the Kansas City web design side comes in.

Timeline

How long this actually takes

Slower than anybody wants. A placement has to be written, accepted, published, then found and weighed by a search engine. The gap between going live and seeing anything is usually weeks and sometimes longer.

That is why we report what was built and where it points rather than claiming a ranking change the same month. If a position moves within days of a link going live, the link was almost certainly not the cause.

It is also why this is a steady monthly thing rather than a campaign. A handful of real placements every month compounds. Forty in one month followed by nothing looks exactly like what it is.

Before You Call

Link building questions we get asked

How many links do I need?

It depends entirely on what the businesses above you have. We count their referring domains and yours, and the gap is the answer. Anybody quoting a number before looking at that is guessing.

How long before links affect rankings?

Weeks to months. A link has to be found, crawled and weighed. Anything that moves a ranking within days was not the link, and treating it as proof leads to bad decisions later.

Do you buy links?

No. We earn placements by writing something a publication wants to run. It is slower and it does not stop working when an algorithm update lands.

How do I know the links are real?

You get every live URL. Open them. The link should be there, point at your site and not be marked nofollow or sponsored. A status column in a report proves nothing.

Can links hurt me?

Bought links at volume from obvious networks can. A handful of odd links pointing at you from sites you never asked for generally will not, and disavowing them is usually unnecessary and occasionally harmful.
